Sant Jordi is the most industrial village in the municipality, and it is also the closest village to the airport. A visit to its fortified church is a must, which was founded as a spiritual centre for the men and women who worked collecting salt in Ses Salines. It is believed that it was built before 1577, and it is characteristic for the sloppy walls and the battlements, which emphasise its defensive character. The neighbours would seek refuge in its walls when pirates attacked them. The side chapels were built in the 18th century, when the temple was no longer needed as a refuge from attacks. In the 19th century the inside was modified, and in 1990 the main altarpiece was installed.
After crossing Sant Jordi, on your way to the airport, there is a hippodrome, on the roundabout to Ses Salines. The building is not specially interesting, but on Saturdays morning there is a popular market that is run with a much more open mind than ‘las Dalias’ or ‘Es Canar’. Anybody, for a very low price, can park their car and sell whatever they like. So, you are likely to find second hand items, a little bit of handicraft work, clothing and all kinds of people.
In the surroundings you will find fantastic beaches, like those located in the Natural Park of Ses Salines, Platja d’en Bossa or Es Bol Nou, in the zone of Sa Caleta.
