Sant Josep is the largest municipality in Ibiza, and its territory comprises natural and cultural assets that were included in the World Heritage declaration of 1999. It is in the south of the island and it is the region with more beaches, distributed along 80 kilometres of coast. In this area there are beautiful cliffs, magic rocky offshore isles and virgin areas such as the natural parks of Cala d’Hort and Ses Salines, which are true earthly paradises. Inland, the countryside is full of pines, junipers, fig trees and carob trees, scattered houses and small villages with lots of charm.
In this municipality the visitor can discover the watchtowers of Ses Portes, Es Carregador, en Rovira and the one des Savinar. The latter is situated in the island’s most impressive viewpoint, in front of es Vedrà isle, a magic spot numerous legends. Don’t forget to visit the beautiful churches of Sant Jordi, Sant Josep, Sant Agustí, Es Cubells and Sant Francesc.
Archaeology lovers will enjoy a visit to the Phoenician village of Sa Caleta, included in World Heritage UNESCO’s list, and the Punic-Roman township of Ses Païsses in Cala d’Hort, both situated in privileged spots. They help people to understand better both the history and present of the island.
It has many tourist areas, but the most important are Platja d’en Bossa and Cala de Bou. The airport is located in this area. Its coves concentrate many of the most famous beach bars and restaurants. There are also multiple luxury villas in some of cliff tops.
