In winter, Ibiza is a quiet city of 50,000 citizens for whom peace is an essential aspect of life. In summer it becomes a meeting point of crowds, where adventurers, artists, families and a host of other people arrive searching some for relaxation, fun or simply beauty.

From a geo-political point of view, the municipality of Vila includes only the city, most of institutional services and governmental offices. It is the centre of cultural activity: the University Illes Balears is in Vila, as well as many museums and other centres. To sum it up, Eivissa is the administrative centre of the island, where you can find all the necessary services of a capital city, such as a major hospital –Can Misses – or branches of the most important banks. The city is also equipped with several yachting harbours.
