Can Pou is a place to enjoy an evening party under the stars, in summer, or beside the chimney, in winter. The house where Can Pou is set up combines an atmosphere without pretensions with an exquisite kitchen, of Hispanic, French and Scandinavian influences. The restaurant was born in 1998, when Joan Cardona came back to the island after going over half of the world. As an adolescent, Joan started learning at the hotel Cala Gració, where he met a client that proposed him to work at “Chez Lasserre”, one of the best known restaurants in Paris. Afterwards he went over London, Miami, Stockholm… Now, in Can Pou, Joan attends the clientele while his son Daniel, who was formed in the School of Hotel Business of Stockholm, cooks simple and delicious recipes. Joan’s wife, Claire, makes visible her French origin in starters and desserts.
Our recommendations
The dishes that are served in the cosy garden of Can Pou are characterized by a simple elaboration, which grants the prominence to the raw material, although influenced by culinary traditions from different origins. The menu is very seasonal and varies constantly, guided by the products of the market. Among its starters there stand out delicious salads, such as that with fresh spinach and sauté prawns to the garlic, or the pasta. Of these latter, are worth mentioning the tagliatelle piccolini, or the rigatoni with green asparagus. Next, one can taste the baked John Dory with garlic and white wine, the thick tuna fillet with herbs, the Swedish meatballs with creamy sauce and blackberry jam, or the stone-grilled steak. In summer, there is a breakfast and sandwiches menu too. Clare elaborates herself delicious jams with fruits of the island such as figs, apricots, plums or oranges, which are also sold in the establishment.
