Can Pau is not only called after her owner, Alba Pau, but also because before her the house belonged to the ‘home de pau’ (Justice of the peace) of Santa Gertrudis, although it is still an ideal place where to find peace of mind. The old Ibiza style house is well rebuilt and it is full of family keepsakes such as a large painting of James Dean that Alba’s brother bought for her as she was born on the same day that the Hollywood star died in a car accident. Alba is a third-generation cook. Her mother learned from her grandmother when they still lived in Banyoles, (Catalonia). Thirty years ago Alba’s parents arrived in Ibiza and founded one of the most traditional establishments on the island. At present their daughter runs it, the after lunch chatting may well be called eternal and the drinks at the terrace, infinite.
Our recommendations
Alba Pau mixes the traditional Catalonian cuisine with modern touches. To spice up your apetite, anchovies from ‘la Escala’ with crunchy bits, Esqueixada, Escalivada, snails ‘Lolita’ or Foie baked in salt. As main course, cod ‘A la llauna’, quails with cabbage, pork leg, marinated goose and steak tartar.
