Alfredo was the oldest of five, of a German family who, in 1934, escaped from Nazi persecution and settled in Ibiza. In 1942 his establishment was bought by the familiy of present owner, Juanito Riera, who has taken the restaurant to the top popularity list in Ibiza of traditional gastronomy. Juanito Riera –alias Alfredo- was born in 1942, the same year that his father bought this establishment from Germans. It used to offer a homely menu during the week and more sophisticated meals on Sundays. This way, Juanito/Alfredo was brought up between pots and pans even though his dream was to become a football star. But he grew up and he became keen on gastronomy and wine, and the restaurant improved its quality and got more prestige as time went by. However, he never changed the style of his cooking which is basically Ibiza style, and neither the family-style service. Two decades ago, he started taking pictures of the famous people that have dined in the restaurant, and nowadays one of the walls is full of faces that have made history in Spain and internationally. The alterations made few years ago have added even more category to this establishment, which is one of the essential places to visit in Ibiza.

Our recommendations
Ca n’Alfredo is in the town centre and offers many seasonal dishes. It is one of the few places that serve the classical Christmas almond sauce or the vegetables Cuinat at Easter. There is always battered seafood on offer, Trempó from Majorca with sardines ‘de casco’, baked ‘San Pedro’ sole, a variety of rice dishes and calamari stuffed with sobrrasada (red Majorcan sausage). Catalina Riera, chef and spouse of Juanito, has her own way of cooking traditional Ibizencan food, making the stronger dishes lighter.
