Although there is evidence of its existence since the fourteenth century, the present church was rebuilt in 1708, by order of the archbishop of Tarragona, which was found seriously damaged during a trip to the island.
The temple was part of the old Poor Hospital, whose patients were being treated at a nearby house. In 1849 the hospital moved to a house adjacent to the Castle. The church housed the congregation Eccehomo, which was accompanying the condemned to death to the scaffold.
In the sixties of the twentieth century was restored by architect Elías Torres. The temple has various uses and is now utilized by the Orthodox community in Ibiza.
